On Monday, Norsk Hydro, the world's largest aluminium producer, said it had obtained permission from a federal court in Brazil to restart production capacity at the world's largest alumina plant.
Alunorte alumina plant leaked pollutants in February 2018, and local regulators and courts subsequently restricted its production. The plant currently operates at 50% capacity.
Hilde Merete Aasheim, chief executive of Hyderu, said this month that the full resumption of Alunorte would boost its short-term profits substantially.
"Paragominas bauxite production will increase with the acceleration of production at Alunorte plant. In addition, the decision to increase production at Albras Aluminum is expected to come soon, "Hyderu said on Monday.
Albras Aluminum Plant has an annual output of 460,000 tons of finished aluminium, but it has been operating at half capacity due to the reduction of raw material supply. Hyderu accounts for 51% of the company's shares and Nippon Amazon Aluminium for 49%.
A federal court in Brazil decided to lift a production restriction order against the Alunorte alumina plant after a hearing last month.
Hyderu said the plant could achieve 75-85% capacity utilization in two months.
Alunorte produces 6.3 million tons of aluminium oxide annually, compared with nearly 100 million tons worldwide, according to Hyderu.com.
In addition to the production restriction order, Heidru is still waiting for a court decision on whether to allow it to use Red Mud Dam No. 2.
